Chapter 4: Summary:
The first day of class begins and the new jr. class boys are very excited but the others are quite cool with it. In the first period of the day the students have Latin with Mr. McAllister. A boring class with a boring teacher... the next period begins and a new teacher walks into the room, it's Mr. Hager the Math teacher. The only thing what changed is the teacher.. it's still a boring class with a bit more strict teacher. Mr. Hager talks and talks till the bell rings witch interrupt and finish Mr. Hager's class. In the next period the students have the new teacher Mr. Keating in English class. When the students come into the classroom Mr. Keating is already sitting at his desk and starring out of the window and continues even all students are now sitting. The students wonder what he want them to do but suddenly he stands up and start doing things and saying things, other teachers wouldn't. He asks the class to come with him to the honor room and there the students should look at the trophies, pictures,... Then Mr. Keating reads a poem with them and he asks the students about a saying: Carpe Diem (seize the day). He compares his students with classes of years before them and means that there is no difference between the class in the photos and the students who surround him. They all are full of hope but all of them just waited until it was to late before making their lives into even one iota of what they were capable, they all squandered their boyhood dreams. Mr Keating says. And after that he came back  to (Carpe Diem) and taught his students to make their lives extraordinary and exciting until the bell rings again and end this first day of class.
